Learning relationships by raising and studying butterflies

When you discover the Maypop plant by following the butterflies, then look carefully at the undersides of the leaves for tiny eggs.

Easier to find are the caterpillars, which are brightly colored and very spiny.

Be careful not to touch the caterpillar. The spines can irritate your skin. If you want to hold it, pick a piece of the plant and hold it. If you do not take the caterpillar home, carefully put it where it can crawl back onto a live part of the Maypop plant.
